Colleen Brogan
Instructional Designer
McKinsey New Ventures

What is your personal and professional background?
I am a content strategist, producer and consultant working at the intersection of art, education and technology. I currently work at McKinsey New Ventures. Previously, I worked at The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Why did you choose USC’s Master of Science in Integrated Design, Business and Technology?
I wanted a degree that would give me the capability and network to be a leader at the intersection of design, business and technology. I love working with museum and business leaders and didn’t want to “take time off” to pursue a degree to advance my career.
What are your career goals?
My long-term career goals are interdisciplinary: I want to lead strategic problem-solving around global issues — and that can come in many forms. I have ambitions of leading digital learning and visitor engagement at a museum, producing a documentary on global issues around creativity and education, and founding an incubator for creators-in-residence to address community and global issues.
In what way(s) do you believe this program will help you to achieve your career goals?
USC’s online master’s gives me the skills to lead in an interdisciplinary role and manage and communicate with diverse teams. Most importantly, it gives me the freedom and flexibility to pursue my career goals now and grow my ideas along with the program as the curriculum guides me through big questions that challenge and refine my goals.
What is your favorite aspect of the program so far?
The online classes are rigorous and personal. I’ve gotten to know my classmates really well in a very short amount of time. My favorite aspect of the program is the online studio critiques in the Design Essentials course. Having work critiqued by industry leaders and faculty was such a great learning experience in my undergraduate education, and I’m happy to see it can be replicated with the same rigor and intellectualism in an online-enabled program.
